His Excellency, Ambassador Sibusisiwe Mngomezulu hands over SADC Brussels Group chairmanship to his counterpart, Ambassador Baso Sangqu of the Republic of South Africa

The Kingdom of Swaziland joined other members of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) in congratulating the Republic of South African, when His Majesty King Mswati III handed over chairmanship of SADC to His Excellency President Jacob Zuma, at the 37th SADC Summit of Heads of State and Government.

In accordance with normal practice, the chairmanship was handed over at all levels; and in Brussels, His Excellency Ambassador Sibusisiwe Mngomezulu met with the Ambassador for the Republic of South Africa, His Excellency Ambassador Baso Sangqu, to hand over the chairmanship of the SADC Brussels Group, as South Africa commences chairmanship of SADC.

The Incoming Chairperson of the SADC Brussels Group, Ambassador Sangqu, expressed appreciation to his counterpart, Ambassador Mngomezulu; for his exemplary leadership and stewardship of the Group during the tenure of Swaziland as Chair of SADC. Their Excellencies acknowledged that some work still needs to be done to enhance regional integration and promote further development in the SADC region. Their Excellencies agreed to utilise the opportunity availed by the roles and responsibilities assigned to the two countries as part of the SADC Troika; to give the support required by the SADC Brussels Group to contribute to the effective implementation of the SADC Treaty, by the SADC Member States.
